AG Absence Policy

Students can earn 5 points for all activities that require participation. If a student is absent, they cannot make up those points. If it is a school related absence, those points will be excused. If a student is absent for an assignment that is worth more than 5 points, the student may download the assignment, complete it, and turn it in for full credit within 5 school days.

Answers to common questions students may ask about AG

What are Advisory Groups (AG)?

AG will help you meet the graduation requirements for the State of Oregon (please see the attached document entitled The Oregon Diploma, at the bottom of this page for more information). It is a multi-grade course where students will work on their Service Learning Experience, which allows students to meet the 2007 Career Related Learning Standards for high schools. It’s also a way that students will be linked to an SHS staff member, who will act as an advocate for SHS students. Advisory Groups are also a consistent way to provide students with support throughout the year. They are in place to help every student achieve success and graduate from Silverton High. This is accomplished through the connection between an advisor and student and time built into the schedule for extra help, taking tests, and working with others.

What do we do?

We will be working on Senior Service Projects and Personal Education Plans (PEP) with Bridges in small groups that continue through your years in high school. AG also serves as a forum to provide important information, help you get involved in SHS activities, and connect you with the SHS family.

When will Advisory Groups take place?

AG takes place every day between 3rd and 4th period. Sometimes assemblies and other events like class elections or class meetings will happen during this time.

How are groups chosen? Can I switch groups?

Groups were chosen by the school computer system and the administrative team. You will not be able to switch groups. If we allowed this, potentially the number of changes could be extreme.

Why do I need to go? Is it graded? Do I get credit?

It’s a required class that you must attend. It is graded pass/no pass and you will get credit for attending the class. 20 points are awarded for lesson days, with 5 points awarded other days, kept by the AG teacher online.

Is there homework?

There may be homework depending on what you are working on. Much of the senior project is done outside of class. There are some items of your PEP that may need to be done at home. Aside from the senior projects, the homework will not be too cumbersome.
